4 Ways To Survive The Post Christmas Blues
Christmas is such a special time of year. We look forward to and prepare for the Christmas holiday season so much that it can be difficult to return to a normal schedule once the season has passed. Some really struggle to process this transition. We will discuss four ways to deal with the "post Christmas blues".
Put Away Christmas Decorations In Timely Manner
There really isn't a right or wrong time to put up and take down Christmas decorations so long as it is not in excess. This is especially true when taking down one's Christmas decorations. Some families choose to put away all decorations two or three days after Christmas while others prefer to keep them out until after the New Years. Whichever the case is, the sooner after Christmas the better. This is a natural way to mentally move on from the season and begin to focus on the new year.
Plan Something To Look Forward To
One of the best ways to avoid the post Christmas blues is to plan something that will allow you to focus your energy, mental and physical, on the upcoming event. It doesn't have to be an expensive vacation or a costly purchase, but it should be something that involves time off from one's daily schedule. Some ideas could include:
- weekend trip with the family
- getaway with spouse
- professional sporting event
- a night out, including dinner and a movie
- a day spent with good friends
- massage, pedicure, manicure
Planning something that is exciting and an activity that involves a break from the daily grind will help to alleviate some of the stress caused by post Christmas blues.
Focus On New Year's Goals
Many individuals choose to set goals for the new year. New Year's resolutions certainly are not a new concept but by starting on goals the last week of the year instead of the first week of the new year will not only give a person something to focus on but also give them a head start on achieving the goals that they choose to set for themselves.
Exercise
Exercising is a great way to feel better both physically and mentally. Exercise releases endorphins from the brain which helps individuals to be happy and to not as likely experience feelings of depression. Exercise is a great way to beat the post Christmas blues. Daily exercise consisting of thirty minutes or more can also help to shed some of those extra holiday pounds that may linger from all of the tasty Christmas goodies. Daily exercise is also a great goal to set for the upcoming year.
