Being a Better Christian

As Christians we know what our goal is and what is expected of us. The savior taught, "Be then perfect like unto me." Now, we should realize that we will most likely not even come close to perfection in this life. This is a long-term goal; very long term. However, we are asked to better ourselves little by little everyday. We will discuss three ways that the Savior Himself taught for us to become like Him, perfect. First, the Savior bids to all of us "Come, follow me." He asks us to follow his example He lead us by example showing us how to live. He was and is perfect. We need to try to live our lives in such a way that we may be an example of a believer and a follower of the Savior.

Atonement

Another principal he taught us was to treat other the way we would like to be treated. His was a life of sacrifice. He always put the needs of others before His own. Even to the point of giving His for us. He made the ultimate sacrifice on our behalf. It seems that for us so little is really asked of us. We need to strive daily to earn the right to call ourselves Christians. We earn this right and privilege in the way we live our own lives.

Feed My Sheep

Lastly, when the Savior was preparing Peter for the responsibility that lay ahead of him, the Savior charged Peter by saying "Feed my sheep." This charge could be directed to all of us in our own lives today. We are to take care of His sheep. We are to serve, love, and care for others. The Savior's life was a life of service. He taught us that when we serve our fellow man we are serving Him by looking after those who might be less fortunate than ourselves. He taught us to not simply wait for an opportunity of service to come our way, but for us to be looking for ways to become an instrument in His hands to bless the lives of those around us. This is something we are instructed to do on a daily basis. Service can come in the smallest of form, even a simple smile or "hello" to a stranger in passing.

Spiritually

By striving daily to learn the lessons He taught while during His earthly ministry we can become better followers of the Savior. Always striving to do a little better, knowing of course that in the end it will be the grace that He so fully offers us that we can be saved. We should be grateful and honored to call ourselves Christians. Hopefully we can live up to this privilege. Remember that we are not perfect but we can try with all our heart to be more like Christ.
